Plastic greenhouses
Plastic greenhouses make use of Polyethylene, Vinyl, Renolon,
or other types of transparent plastics. Plastic is far less expensive
than glass, thus offering an economic choice for those who want greenhouses,
but cannot afford the glass versions.
While plastic is affordable and easily attained, there are a few negatives
when it comes to plastic greenhouses: Plastic does not last as long
as glass. Some types of plastic planes will last one or two years, others
five. The corrugated, more expensive plastics may last as long as twenty-five
years.
Plastic greenhouses do not trap as much heat as their glass counterparts.
It is said that plastic greenhouses transmit only about forty percent
of the heat compared with the glass greenhouses. The plastic varieties
do resist rot and insects such as termites. They are also very lightweight,
shatterproof and translucent.
